Local Resident Has Accepted a Challenge to Overcome His Fear of Heights

Richard Matthews, of East Grinstead, has arranged to abseil 100 metres down the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth Harbour on Saturday May 9, 2026.

This came about following a visit to Portsmouth last September.  On Richard's return, he phoned his brother and told him about the visit and his brother challenged him to abseil down the Spinnaker Tower. Subsequently Richard accepted the challenge to overcome his fear of heights. 

He will also be raising money for the RNLI, as they have many volunteers who risk their own lives to save lives at sea and on beaches.  These volunteers have saved thousands of lives since they came into existence and still continue to do so.
